State of the Industry
Seattle Southside Visitor Services serves as the office of tourism for the cities of Tukwila, SeaTac, Kent and Des Moines. Just 15 minutes south of Downtown Seattle and minutes from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Seattle Southside is an ideal travel destination for tourists visiting Western Washington.

Seattle Southside offers first-rate value priced accommodations, 30 hotels near Sea-Tac International Airport and 20 near Westfield Southcenter Mall. With completion of a recent major expansion, Westfield Southsenter became the largest indoor shopping mall in the Puget Sound region, and Seattle Southside now boasts more than 5 million combined square feet of shopping.

Home to the state's gateway airport and hub to rental cars, taxis, train service and other transportation modes, Seattle Southside is easily accessible and easy to get around. Most area hotels offer free shuttle service to and from the airport and to many local sites of interest.

Tourism Trends
Attracting major sports and recreational events that fill hotels and generate economic impact are critical for Seattle Southside. The inaugural Seattle Rock 'n' Roll Marathon (June 26) will offer an economic impact of $19.4 million to the region, drawing 75 percent of its participants from outside the area. The Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle Southside Visitor Services are working in tandem to ensure a successful first-year event and grow economic benefit for the region in future years.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport inaugurated its third runway in late 2008, which is expected to increase the airport’s efficiency and decrease passenger delays. While air seat capacity is currently down at major U.S. airports, Sea-Tac remains relatively busy with strong passenger volumes and is well-positioned for future growth that will benefit Seattle Southside.
